Malala Day
United Nations has announced 12th July as World Malala Day to praise the young activist, Malala Yousafzai. Malala Day is being celebrated on the birthday of Malala Yousafzai to honour women and children’s rights around the world.
On October 9, 2012, Malala was shot in the head by Taliban gunmen after she publicly advocated for the education of girls. In 2012, she was awarded the first-ever National Youth Peace Prize by the Pakistan government.
In 2014, at age 17, She became the youngest-ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her efforts for children’s rights which had begun even before she was shot.

NITI Aayog presents Voluntary National Review 2020 report
India’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR) report has been granted by the NITI Aayog at the United Nations High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, 2020.
The VNR 2020 report has been titled as “Decade of Action: Taking SDGs from Global to Local” and it considers for the selection and implementation of the 2030 Plan in India.
NITI Aayog has been authorized to examine the adoption as well as monitoring of SDGs at the national and sub-national level. The High-level Political Forum (HLPF) is the foremost international platform to follow-up and review the progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

NITI Aayog launches “ATL App Development Module”
“ATL App Development Module” has been launched by the NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) for school students nationwide. These modules have been launched in collaboration with Indian startup Plezmo.
ATL App Development Module seeks to sharpen the skills of school students and converting them from App users to App makers in the coming times. Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is also seeking to train school teachers in order to build capacities and acumen for App Development.

MP govt to run ‘Roko -Toko’ campaign for those who do not wear masks
Madhya Pradesh government start a new campaign named as Roko -Toko (रोको टोको) means stop and campaign for those who do not wear masks. As the use of masks is necessary for all public places in the state. Now selected voluntary organizations will provide masks to the people who do not wear masks in public places and will charge an amount of Rs 20 per mask from the concerned.
In the guidelines issued by the state government, it has been stated that the collector will select voluntary organizations in the district for this work. The selected organizations will be provided 100 masks created under ‘Jeevan Shakti Yojana’ on credit.
Chhattisgarh Government organises India’s first e-Lok Adalat
Chhattisgarh government has created the first e-Lok Adalat of India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The “e-Lok Adalat” was created by the High Court and Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority and was introduced by P R Ramchandra Menon, the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court.
The “e-Lok Adalat” was organized in order to bring relief to people and to reduce the pendency of cases between the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lee Hsien Loong becomes Prime Minister of Singapore
Lee Hsien Loong has become the Prime Minister of Singapore after the ruling People’s Action Party won the General Elections held in the country.
With this, Lee Hsien Loong has won a fourth term as the Prime Minister of Singapore. Lee Hsien Loong is the 3rd Prime Minister of Singapore. The People’s Action Party is the ruling party in Singapore since independence in 1965.
India becomes second-largest foreign investor in UK
India has become the second-largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United Kingdom.
As per the new data published by the UK government in the Department for International Trade (DIT) inward investment statistics for 2019-2020, India invested in 120 projects and created 5,429 new jobs in the UK. According to the data, the United States delivered 462 projects and 20,131 jobs and hence remains the number one source of FDI for the UK.

Google to invest USD 10 billion in India
Google CEO, Sundar Pichai has announced a $10 billion for “GoogleForIndia Digitisation Fund”. Under the fund, Google will invest roughly Rs 75,000 crore in India over the next 5-7 years.
The investment will be done through a mix of equity investments, partnerships and operational infrastructure in ecosystem investments.

HSBC India rolls out digital payment products for retail customers
HSBC India published the launch of a wide range of digital payment products for its retail customers. HSBC is now a member of e-NACH (Electronic National Automated Clearing House), which will enable its consumers to easily automate recurring payments with standing instructions for specific amounts, date and time of payment, without having to submit paper mandates, the lender stated.
It has also launched real-time bill payments powered by Bharat Bill Payments System (BBPS) on its net banking and mobile application. The bank’s customers can now use their internet banking to pay directly at over 2 lakh merchant websites.

Kezang D Thongdok bags Dada Saheb Phalke Award 2020
Arunachal Pradesh filmmaker Kezang D Thongdok has bagged the Dada Saheb Phalke Award 2020 for a short documentary “Chi Lupo”.
Chi Lupo is a short documentary on honey hunting, documented by Kezang D Thongdok. Chi Lupo sketches the tradition of honey hunting practised in the Shertukpen community in which “Chi” means honey while “Lipo” means hunters.
NTPC wins CII-ITC Sustainability Awards 2019
NTPC Ltd has been awarded the prestigious CII-ITC Sustainability Award 2019. NTPC Ltd has been awarded under Outstanding Accomplishment in Corporate Excellence Category. It has also secured Commendation for Significant Achievement in Corporate social responsibility (CSR) category.
NTPC has been rewarded for its sustainability practices such as Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) to benefit school-going girls from an underprivileged background to support in their overall development; Contractors’ Labour Information Management System (CLIMS) through which payment to contract labourers are being paid on the last day of the month at project sites.

IIT-Delhi develops device to disinfect N-95 masks in 90 minutes
The IIT-Delhi has developed an ozone-based decontamination device to reduce bio-medical waste and enable safe re-use of N-95 face masks. The device, called Chakr DeCoV, will help re-use a mask up to 10 times. It was launched via a video-conference by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey.
The mechanism was developed by an IIT start-up — Chakra Innovation — which has been approved by the Indian Medical Council of Research-National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV). The device can decontaminate an N-95 mask in 90 minutes, following which it can be re-used 10 times.
Odisha university innovates ultraviolet device for sanitisation
The Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Odisha has come up with a robot-assisted device that uses short-wave ultraviolet rays for sanitisation. The contactless device- Ultra Violet Robot-Assisted Sanitiser (UVRAS)-can be an effective tool in the war against Covid-19.
The UVRAS emits ultraviolet light to disinfect enclosed areas like hospital rooms, doctors’ chambers, operation theatres, guest rooms, restaurants and meeting spaces. This device has a camera that gives a real-time video of the area where it will be deployed for sanitisation.

Asia Cup cricket tournament postponed till June 2021
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced to postpone the Asia Cup cricket tournament until June 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic. The tournament was earlier scheduled to be held in September 2020.
Originally Pakistan was to host the Asia Cup 2020, but due to security reasons amid coronavirus pandemic, the tournament was later rescheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, since it is the least affected country in the region.

Hawkins Cookers Chairman Brahm Vasudeva passes away
Hawkins Cookers Chairman Brahm Vasudeva passed away at the age of 84. Vasudeva was appointed on the board of the company in 1968 as Vice Chairman and Managing Director and became the Wholetime Chairman and Managing Director in 1984.
Cartoonist Avad Bin Hassan Jami passes away
Renowned cartoonist Avad Bin Hassan Jami, popularly known as “Jami” passed away. He was 77. His cartoons regularly published in leading Gujarati daily newspapers and news magazines for more than two decades.
Sarbjit actor Ranjan Sehgal passes away
Actor Ranjan Sehgal, who predominantly featured in Punjabi TV shows, has passed away due to multiple organ failure. He was 36. The actor, who was also seen on episodes of Hindi crime shows like Crime Patrol and Saavdhan India.
