VERNACULAR (noun) :  स्थानीय भाषा

  • Meaning: used in or suitable for speech and not formal writing.
  • अर्थ: भाषण के लिए इस्तेमाल किया या उपयुक्त और औपचारिक लेखन नहीं।
  • Synonyms: colloquial, jargon, argot, patois. Antonyms: standard, undialectical, genteel, formal.
  • Usage: While the author never stated the novel’s setting, the vernacular of the characters identified the location as somewhere in Asia.

SACK (verb) : निकाल देना

  • Meaning: dismiss from employment.
  • अर्थ: रोजगार से खारिज करना।
  • Synonyms: bounce, discharge, dismiss, terminate,
  • Antonyms: recruit, employ, engage, hire.
  • Usage: Any official found to be involved would be sacked on the spot.

SUBTERRANEAN (adjective) : गुप्त

  • Meaning: secret; concealed.
  • अर्थ: गुप्त; गुप्त।
  • Synonyms: covert, subversive, sunken, private.
  • Antonyms: aboveground, surface, open, palpable.
  • Usage: The robbers are digging a subterranean path that will allow them to enter the bank from underneath the vault’s floor.

DODDER (verb) : डगमगाना

  • Meaning: tremble or totter, typically because of old age.
  • अर्थ: कांपना या टोटका, आमतौर पर बुढ़ापे के कारण।
  • Synonyms: stumble, stagger, sway, lurch.
  • Antonyms: steady, fix, stay, still, remain.
  • Usage: The old woman doddered from the bed to the table.

RELIC (noun) : अवशेष

  • Meaning: a trace of some past or outmoded practice, custom, or belief.
  • अर्थ: कुछ अतीत या बहिर्मुखी अभ्यास, प्रथा, या विश्वास का एक निशान।

  • Meaning: badly made or done.
  • अर्थ: बुरी तरह बनाया या किया हुआ।

  • Antonyms: prestigious, reputed, elegant, upright.
  • Usage: Because of shoddy accounting practices, our firm is being audited.

PERJURY (Noun) : मिथ्या शपथ

  • Meaning: the offence of wilfully telling an untruth or making a misrepresentation under oath.
  • अर्थ: शपथ के तहत जानबूझकर असत्य बताने या गलत बयानी करने का अपराध।
  • Synonym: violation of an oath, giving false evidence/testimony, bearing false witness/testimony, forswearing oneself, making false statements, wilful falsehood
  • Usage: The mother who lied about her son’s whereabouts will soon face trial for perjury.

ADJUDICATE (Verb) : निर्णय करना

  • Meaning: to make an official decision about who is right in a dispute
  • अर्थ: किसी विवाद में कौन सही है, इस बारे में आधिकारिक निर्णय लेना
  • Synonym: adjudge, judge, arbitrate, decide, determine
  • Usage: You should never adjudicate a major decision when you are under the influence of alcohol.

TORPOR (noun) : उदासीनता

  • Meaning: a state of physical or mental inactivity; lethargy.
  • अर्थ: शारीरिक या मानसिक निष्क्रियता की स्थिति; सुस्ती।
  • Synonyms: listlessness, languor, stagnation, idleness.
  • Antonyms: eagerness, keenness, spiritedness, vigor.
  • Usage: During the winter, the bears fall into an intense torpor.

PRECARIOUS (adjective) : अनिश्चित

  • Meaning: dependent on chance; uncertain.
  • अर्थ: संयोग पर निर्भर; अनिश्चित।
  • Synonyms: unsure, unpredictable, doubtful, dubious.
  • Antonyms: certain, stable, confirmed, definite.
  • Usage: As Finance Secretary I found that the finances of the state were in a precarious condition.
