World UFO Day

The World UFO Day is celebrated by some on June 24 and by others on July 2. World UFO Day is celebrated to create awareness about Unidentified Flying Objects and alien life forms.

In 2001, an organisation World UFO Day Organisation (WUFODO) decided to celebrate this day as all the UFO enthusiasts gather to show evidence they collected to support the theory of the existence of extraterrestrial beings.

National Anisette Day

National Anisette Day is observed on 2nd July every year and is popular in Spain, Italy, Portugal, and France.

Aniseed from the anis herb gives anisette its licorice or fennel flavor. While usually a dry dry liqueur, distillers sometimes add a sugar syrup for a sweeter result.

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Giriraj Singh has started the 1st Edition newsletter “Matsya Sampada” fisheries and aquaculture issued by the Department of Fisheries and the operational guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). This newsletter will be published on a quarterly basis.

Kerala announces ‘Dream Kerala Project’ aimed at aiding returning ex-pats

The Kerala government has stated “Dream Kerala Project” to tap the potential and experience of those returning from abroad and other states after losing their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims at the improvement of returning emigrants and the state’s overall development.

Sanjay Dwivedi appointed as Director General of IIMC

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Professor Sanjay Dwivedi as the Director-General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).

Shrikant Madhav Vaidya becomes new chairman of IOC

Shrikant Madhav Vaidya took charge as the new chairman of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). Prior to this, he was the Director (Refineries) on the IOC Board, since October 2019. He will replace Sanjiv Singh, who retired on June 30.

Ravinder Bhakar becomes new CEO of CBFC

Shashank Manohar quits as ICC Chairman

International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman, Shashank Manohar has moved down as the head of the cricket body after two-year tenures. The process for the Chairperson election is likely to be approved by the ICC Board within the next week.

Fitch cuts India’s GDP growth forecast to 8% from 9.5% for FY22

Fitch cuts India’s GDP growth forecast to 8% from 9.5% for FY22, in its June update of Global Economic Outlook report. Fitch retained its projection of Indian economy contracting by 5 per cent in the current fiscal. Meanwhile, Fitch projected the Indian economy to grow 5.5 per cent in 2022-23.

New Zealand cancels the APEC Summit 2021

New Zealand has dropped the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This summit to be taken in Auckland, New Zealand. The 2019 leaders’ meeting was cancelled by Chile due to violent anti-government protests and the virtual APEC meeting of 2020 is being hosted by Malaysia.

IIT Gandhinagar develops AI based tool to detect Covid-19

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based deep learning tool for detection of Covid-19 from Chest X-ray images. This online tool indicates the probability if a person is infected with Covid-19, which can be used for quick preliminary diagnosis before the medical test.

Ravindra Jadeja named India’s ‘most valuable player’ by Wisden

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was named as the country’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP) of the 21st century by Wisden. He made his debut in 2009 and represented India in 49 test matches, 165 ODIs and 49 T20Is as of 2020.

Obituaries

Bollywood Choreographer Saroj Khan Dies At 71

Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan, who mentored generations of actors and was fondly known as “Masterji“, died early this morning. She was admitted to Mumbai’s Guru Nanak Hospital on June 20 after complaining of difficulty in breathing and died of cardiac arrest. She was 71.

The three-time National Award winner had choreographed some of the most memorable songs in Hindi cinema.
