  • Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti is an annual festival observed on 14 April to commemorate the memory of  R. Ambedkar.
  • It marks Babasaheb Dr R.Ambedkar’s birthday who was born on 14 April 1891.
  • World Chagas Disease Day observed globally on 14 April. On 14  April 2020, the world community is to celebrate World Chagas Disease Day for the 1st time. The main aim of marking the day is to increase awareness of Chagas disease and to marked as a day to spread awareness about this “silent and silenced disease”.

National Current Affairs Headlines

  • PM of India Mr Narendra Modi addressed his countrymen and announced the extension of lockdown until 3rd of May 2020. This measure has been taken by the Government of India in order to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the nation.
  • This Lockdown also called as 2.0 as the first lockdown was implemented in India from 25th March 2020 and was scheduled to end on 14th April 2020.
  • Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative, IFFCO, now helping people to spread of COVID-19 at ground IFFCO is continuously organizing ‘Break the CORONA Chain’ Social Awareness Campaign on Ground zero in different states across the country.
  • Under the banner of this social awareness campaign over 60 camps were organized and are continuously being organized on a daily basis highlighting the preventive and precautionary measures among the masses. They have over distributed more than 3.5 Lakh Vitamin-C Tablets, 50,000 medicated soaps, 20,000 masks, 5,000 sanitizers all across India.
  • The Ministry of Labour and Employment has set up 20 control rooms to address wage-related grievances arising in the backdrop of COVID-19. The control rooms have been set up on pan India basis under the Office of Chief Labour Commissioner and will be managed by the Labour Enforcement Officers, Assistant Labour commissioners, Regional Labour Commissioners, and Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners of the respective regions.

  • According to the report, Mr Donald Trump (US President) decided to sell Harpoon Block II air-launched missiles and lightweight torpedoes worth USD155 million to India.
  • The sale of 10 AGM-84L Harpoon Block II air-launched missiles is estimated to cost USD92 million, while 16 MK 54 All Up Round Lightweight Torpedoes and three MK 54 Exercise Torpedoes are estimated to cost USD63 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated in two separate notifications to the Congress.
  • In this pandemic situation where all the country is suffering from COVID-19 crisis, there is a country testing for their missiles. Yes, North Korea fires a barrage of cruise missiles on eve of founder’s birthday The “multiple projectiles” fired from Munchon in eastern Kangwon province were believed to be “surface-to-ship cruise missiles,” the JCS stated in a statement. Missiles flew approx 193km distance before fall.

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) tripled the size of its response to novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic to 20 billion dollars and approved measures to streamline its operations for quicker and more flexible delivery of assistance.
  • YES Bank has announced the extension of its strategic bancassurance relationship with the Max Life Insurance by 5 years. They have decided to do so to reaffirm their commitment to invest in building a digitally-enabled ecosystem, to offer customers a broad range of need-based products and services in order to provide a seamless experience for customers.
  • People’s Bank of China (PBOC) has raised its stake in Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC) from 0.8% to 1.01%. The stake raising process was done as a secondary market transaction. The stakes comprise of 17.49 million shares of the country’s largest mortgage lender HDFC. After the transaction, the closing price of the Chinese central bank’s stake in HDFC was Rs 2,976 crore.

  • Former India’s Attorney General and senior advocate Ashok Desai passed away. He was Attorney General from July 1996 to May 1998.
  • Former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader M.V. Rajashekaran passed away. He had served as Union Minister of State for Planning in the Manmohan Singh Ministry.
  • Iraqi architecture Rifat Chadirji passed away due to COVID-19. He was credited to design some of Iraq’s most valuable structures and iconic “Freedom Monument” in the now protest hub of Baghdad’s Tahrir Square.
