82nd Raising Day of Central Reserve Police Force

The 82nd Raising Day of Central Reserve Police Force was celebrated on 27 July 2020. The CRPF was established as Crown Representative’s Police on July 27, 1939, and converted into the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on the enactment of the CRPF Act on December 28, 1949.

CRPF has the mandate to secure internal security scenario and is at the forefront to keep our nation safe. The first battalion of the force was raised on July 27, 1939, as the Crown Representative’s Police (CRP) under the British in Neemuch town of Madhya Pradesh.

Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrated on 26th July

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26th July. This day is celebrated to remembers the extreme valour, sacrifice and exemplary courage of Indian soldiers during the 1999 Kargil war.

This year India is celebrating the 21 years of victory in Kargil war. It was in 1999 that a high altitude mountain war broke out along the peaks of Kargil near the Line of Control, the de-facto border that divides Kashmir between the two nations.

Animal reported dead at Kaziranga National Park, Tiger Reserve

A total of 129 animal casualties have been reported at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Bokakhat here due to drowning and other reasons.

The animals which have been rescued include 14 rhinos, five wild buffaloes, eight wild boars, two swamp deer, 95 hog deer, a sambar, three porcupines, and a Python.

DST launches programme for India-Russia S & T cooperation

India-Russia Joint Technology Assessment and Accelerated Commercialization Programme has been driven by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in partnership with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises (FASIE) of the Russian Federation.

The programme will strengthen the Science, Technology and Innovation ties between India and Russia. DST will fund up to Rs 15 Crores to 10 Indian SMEs/Start-ups for a period of two years.

The programme has been launched with the primary aim of connecting Indian, and Russian Science & Technology (S&T) led SMEs and Start-ups for joint Research and development (R&D) for technology development as well as for cross-country technology adaptation.

GoI grants medical assistance worth about USD 1Mn to DPRK

Government of India has extended medical assistance worth about USD 1 million in the form of anti-tuberculosis medicines to North Korea.

The medical assistance was extended in response to a request received from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and was granted under the aegis of an ongoing WHO anti-tuberculosis programme in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The consignment of anti-tuberculosis medicines was handed over by Indian Ambassador to DPRK Atul Malhari Gotsurve to DPRK authorities in the presence of a WHO representative.

Assam government deploys drone and anti-depredation quick response vehicle to guard forest areas

Assam deployed a Surveillance Quadcopter (Drone) and an anti-depredation quick response vehicle.

The inauguration of the vehicle an intensified 24X7 surveillance would be made possible over the forest cover of the state helping to rein in the increasing incidents of human-animal conflict.

Under this new initiative, the Forest Department introduces three numbers of Special Surveillance Quadcopter and an Antidepradation Quick Response Vehicle in the state.

J-K Announces Launch Of ‘Macadamisation Program’ For Improvement Of Roads

Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu announced the launch of a ‘Macadamisation Program’ for the improvement of roads across Jammu and Kashmir.

Murmu has approved a program for 100 percent macadamisation of all roads in the Union Territory including 11,000 km of fair-weather roads.

A Committee comprising of the Financial Commissioner (Finance), Principal Secretary (PW(R&B)), Secretary (Planning) and Secretary (Rural Development) has been constituted, which will prepare a roadmap and a financing plan for ensuring this program in a time-bound manner.

Delhi government launches website to provide job

Delhi government started a portal for employers and job seekers. CM Kejriwal launched the website http://jobs.delhi.gov.in, named as ‘Rozgar Bazar’, a sort of marketplace for job seekers and the people recruiters.

Recruiters can go to the website and update their requirement. Job seekers can also go there and update their qualification, experience and requirement.

Tamil Nadu CM launches free mask plan for ration card holders

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palaniswami launched a free mask distribution scheme to benefit over 69 lakh families in the first phase, as part of measures to help fight COVID-19.

Palaniswami gave away the masks to five people at the Secretariat marking the inauguration of the first phase of the scheme, which would witness distribution to beneficiaries through ration shops.

The Chief Minister had recently announced the distribution of quality reusable masks to all ration cardholders in the state as part of measures to fight the pandemic

President Kovind appoints Anandiben Patel as the Governor of MP

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has appointed the Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel to discharge the functions of the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

She has been appointed as the former MP Governor Lalji Tandon passed away recently. Earlier on June 28, Patel was given the additional charge of Madhya Pradesh during the absence on leave of Governor Lalji Tandon. She has served as the former Chief Minister of Gujarat, she was the first female chief minister of the state.

Indian team’s 2018 Asian Games silver medal upgraded to gold

The silver medal of the Indian 4×400 mixed relay team’s 2018 Asian Games, Jakarta has been upgraded to gold. The medal was upgraded to gold following the disqualification of Bahrain squad that finished first in the 4×400 mixed relay final.

The Bahrain squad was disqualified as Kemi Adekoya of Bahrain has been handed a 4-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit for failing a dope test. The Indian quartet of Mohammed Anas, M.R. Poovamma, Hima Das and Arokia Rajiv, who finished second behind Bahrain in the 4×400 mixed relay final have now become the first winner of the event. Also.

Indian runner Anu Raghavan has moved from fourth place to a bronze medal position in the women’s 400 m hurdles following the disqualification of Kemi Adekoya of Bahrain.

Haryana to host 2021 Khelo India Youth Games

Haryana will host the 4th edition of the Khelo India Youth Games in 2021. The decision was made by the chief minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar and Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju via video conference.

The Games will be held in Panchkula. Haryana has done well in all three editions of KIYG. While they came second in both 2019 and 2020 editions (200 medals in 2020 and 159 medals in 2019) Haryana won it in 2018 with 102 podium finishes (38 gold, 26 silver, 38 bronze).

IIM-Kozhikode develops ‘Veli Band’ for ensuring social distancing

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode based incubated startup Qual5 India Pvt.Ltd has developed a wearable hand band Known as the “Veli Band”. The band will help in managing social distancing by sending out an alarm in case of proximity to another person.

The band immediately vibrates, sounds buzzer, and flashes LED together to notify wearers that another band is within 3 feet (1 metre), reminding them of the need to maintain social distance.

The device, to be worn on the wrist, can anonymously keep track of interactions with other devices and thus not only help in maintaining a safer workplace but also aid in tracking employee movements in real-time.

IIT Kharagpur researchers develop portable device for low-cost Covid-19 rapid test

IIT Kharagpur has developed a novel portable rapid diagnostic device to detect Covid-19 infection. The test costs only Rs 400, taking all components of expenses and business model into account.

Tanzania’s Former President Benjamin Mkapa passes away

Tanzania’s Former President, Benjamin Mkapa passed away. He served as the third president of the country, from 1995 to 2005, before handing over power to the fourth president Jakaya Kikwete.

He held several cabinet posts, such as foreign minister and information minister and also served as ambassador to the United States before he was elected president.
