PM Modi to unveil Asia’s largest solar plant in MP

Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi will reveal Asia’s largest 750 MW Rewa ultra mega solar plant in Madhya Pradesh on July 10. The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar is built in the Rewa district of Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh, with a total solar installed capacity of 750 MW. It is one of the largest single-site solar power plants in Asia.

India’s 1st NPNT compliant Drone flight successfully completed

India’s First No-Permission No-Takeoff (NPNT) compliant drone flight on the A200 Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) has been completed successfully by Quidich Innovation Labs and Asteria Aerospace. This NPNT drone flight is under the Ministry of Civil Aviation MoCA & DGCA comprehensive policy on the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), which came into effect on 1st Dec 2018.

West Bengal Govt launches ‘Self Scan app’ to scan documents

Mamata Banerjee West Bengal Chief Minister has originated a new mobile application called “SelfScan” which has been developed by the state’s information technology department, to scan documents. It is a totally safe and guarded app. User can edit the documents as well with the help of SelfScan app.

IARI Jharkhand’s building named after Late Shyama Prasad Mukherjee

The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Jharkhand new administrative and the academic building have been named after Bharatiya Jan Sangh founder Late Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his 119th birth anniversary. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee dedicated his life to the unity and integrity of the country and gave the call for one nation-one law.

HP becomes first state where everyone possess LPG connection

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has declared that the Himachal Pradesh has become the leading state in India where 100% of households have LPG gas connections. The success was achieved by the state with the help of ‘Himachal Grihini Suvidha Yojana’ with the cooperation of the state government covered the left out families in the state, who were not covered under the Central government’s Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojna.

Karnataka government launches “Nekara Samman Yojane”

Government of Karnataka has started a relief project “Nekara Samman Yojane” for weavers. The state government has allocated a sum of Rs 10.96 crore under the programme. As per the state government, the Silk, cotton, wool and other handloom weavers have been made eligible under the scheme.

Maharashtra government launches “Maha” Job portal

Government of Maharashtra has been launched “Maha” Jobs Portal. The job portal has been rolled out to give employment opportunities to local residents. Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation will run the Maha job portal.

Israel successfully launches “Ofek 16” spy satellite into space

Israel Defence Ministry has published the successful launch of a new “Ofek 16” spy satellite into orbit by applying a locally-developed Shavit rocket from a launch pad at Palmachim airbase in central Israel. This was the first launch of an Israeli spy satellite into space since the Ofek-11 which entered orbit in September 2016.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has dethroned Kylie Jenner as Instagram’s highest-paid celebrity. According to social media marketing firm Hopper HQ, Johnson can charge advertisers roughly $1,015,000 for a sponsored post. As of publication, Johnson has 189 million followers while Jenner has 183 million.

Also on this year’s list were pro soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo – who charged about $889,000 per post – and Jenner’s sister Kim Kardashian, who could charge $858,000Ariana Grande rounds out the top five, charging about $853,000.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was also named Hollywood’s highest-paid actor of 2019 by Forbes.

Indian Railway in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has set up a 1.7 Megawatt solar power plant at Bina, Madhya Pradesh. The project involves the adoption of innovative technology for converting Direct Current to single-phase Alternating Current for feeding directly to Railway’s overhead traction system.

Ola partners with PhonePe for digital payments

Injeti Srinivas appointed as chairman of IFSCA

A 1983-batch IAS officer, Injeti Srinivas has been appointed as 1st chairman of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) for a period of three years. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment. Besides the Chairman, IFSCA has a member each nominated from RBI, IRDAI, SEBI and PFRDA. There are also two members from the Central Government and full-time or part-time members in the Authority.

NCLAT chairperson Justice Bhat gets three-month extension

The government extended the term of office of Justice Bansi Lal Bhat who is officiating as the chairperson of National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). The extension is from 15 June for three months or till further orders. Justice Bhat is also holding the post of Member (Judicial) at the appellate tribunal.

UKIBC appoints Jayant Krishna as Group CEO

The UK India Business Council (UKIBC) has appointed Jayant Krishna as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the group. He will replace the current Group CEO, Richard Heald. Prior to this, Jayant Krishna has served as the CEO of Prime Minister’s Skill India mission as well as the Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Jayant Krishna will be the first UKIBC Group CEO to be based in India.

SBM Bank partners with MasterCard for smarter payments solutions

Private lender, SBM Bank (India) Ltd has partnered with Mastercard to transform domestic and cross-border payments and remittances services. The SBM Bank India customers will be able to make real-time domestic business-to-consumer transfers quickly and efficiently using ‘Mastercard Send’. IIT Roorkee researchers develops disinfection box “Unisaviour”

“Unisaviour”, a disinfection box has been developed by the researchers at IIT Roorkee. The disinfection box “Unisaviour” can be used to sterilize personal belongings, apparels, PPE, medical equipment among others form the COVID-19. The disinfection box can also be installed easily at the public spaces such as cinema halls, malls etc to ensure the highest standard of hygiene.

IIT-M develops nano-coated filter for COVID warriors

A nano-coated filter for healthcare workers treating COVID-19 patients has been developed by researchers at IIT-Madras. The filter’s coating properties are optimised for efficient removal of sub-micron sized dust particles in the air.

The use of the filter in face masks can enhance particle filtration efficiency. The filter can be used in respirator devices, air purification system in operation theatres, cabin air filters for the comfort and health of air passengers and air filters for armoured vehicle engines.

The work of developing the filter has been funded by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) and the nano-coated filter is in the process of being field-tested in practical applications.

DRDO to set up research cell at IIT-Hyderabad

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will establish a research cell at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H). The ‘DRDO – IIT-Hyderabad Research Cell’ will undertake basic and applied for research programmes.

The research cell will help enhance the scientific and technological base of the country in critical defence technology areas and help the country become self-reliant in select defence technologies. The MoU is aimed at bringing together the capabilities of DRDO and IIT-Hyderabad, to achieve greater heights in indigenous technology through collaborative research.

Tamil Nadu’s G Akash becomes India’s 66th chess Grandmaster

Tamil Nadu’s G Akash became the country’s 66th chess Grandmaster while his statemate M Pranesh and Goa’s Ameya Audi earned International Master titles.

Akash’s GM title was confirmed at the second council meet of International Chess Federation (FIDE) for the year 2020 held recently. He earned his third GM norm at the National ‘A’ championship in Sikkim last year and the fourth norm in Prague earlier this year.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Bakamla RI (Indonesian Coast Guard) have signed a memorandum of understanding on ‘Maritime Safety and Security’ to boost maritime relations. This MoU will encourage participation by increasing information exchange mechanisms. This real-time Maritime Domain Information will then be the foundation for controlling and responding to incidents of piracy, smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal migration and other such maritime crimes which will bring safety and security to the region and also result in protection of our precious marine environment.

Goa’s former health minister Dr Suresh Amonkar passes away

The former health minister of Goa, Dr Suresh Amonkar, passed away due to Covid-19 infection. Dr Amonkar was also the ex-president of the Goa unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He was a two-term MLA, being elected to the Goa Assembly in 1999 and 2002, as well as served as minister in the first Manohar Parrikar cabinet in 2000 as a minister of health.
