Day of the Seafarer celebrated on 25th June

The International Maritime Organization is commemorated on 25th June as the Day of the Seafarer. This day is recognised by people to return honour to Seafarers and sailors who help the entire world function by conducting sea transport. ​This is the 10th Anniversary. The 2020 campaign for the day: Seafarers are Key Workers.

‘eBloodServices’ Mobile App launched by Health Minister

Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Harsh Vardhan has started the ‘eBloodServices’ mobile application of the Indian Red Cross Society (ICRS). The E-Raktkosh team of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) has developed the ‘eBloodServices’ mobile application under the Digital India scheme.

Cabinet approves setting up of Rs 15000 crore “AHIDF”

Establishment of Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) has been approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund will be worth Rs 15000 crore and provide incentivisation of investments in the formation of such infrastructure for dairy as well as meat processing, and value addition infrastructure and establishment of animal feed plant in the private sector.

MSDE & IBM partners to launch “Skills Build Reignite” Platform

Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and IBM collaborated to uncover free Digital Learning Platform “Skills Build Reignite”. The platform has been started to give more job seekers & provide new resources to Business Owners in India. Along with “Skills Build Reignite”, IBM has also launched the Skills Build Innovation Camp. The two initiatives have been created to bridge the current skills gap in the country.

Jitendra Singh inaugurates Devika and Puneja Bridges in J&K

Union Minister Jitendra Singh has introduced two bridges Devika and Puneja at Udhampur and Doda districts each in Jammu and Kashmir. The Bridge on River Devika in Udhampur has been completed by Border Roads Organisation within fifteen months time. The Puneja Bridge was also constructed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in 36 months.

Kushinagar Airport receive International airport status by Cabinet

Union Cabinet has granted International Airport status to Kushinagar Airport in Uttar Pradesh. The International status to the Airport will end in boosting of domestic/international tourism and economic development of the regions.

Tripura Govt announces ‘Ektu Khelo Ektu Padho’ scheme

Tripura government has published a unique action for activity-based learning named ‘Ektu Khelo, Ektu Padho’. The new plan was drifted intending at involving students by broadcasting audio and video contents focused on hands-on learning activities and messages of simple projects, fun activities and games among them through WhatsApp or SMS services. “The new scheme can be accessed via smartphones of guardians. In case no smartphone is available, SMS services would be used to teach students”.

MPMKVVCL starts Nishtha Vidyut Mitra Scheme for women empowerment

In Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company has launched the Nishtha Vidyut Mitra Scheme for women empowerment. Under the scheme, women Self-Help Groups at Gram Panchayat level will work as Nishtha Vidyut Mitra. This scheme will the company to increase the revenue collection as well as women will also earn extra. This scheme has been implemented in all the Gram Panchayats of all 16 districts of Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Gwalior and Chambal divisions of the company’s jurisdiction.

CCI approves acquisition of stake in Jio Platforms by Jaadhu

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the purchase of a stake in Jio Platforms Limited by Jaadhu Holdings LLC. Jaadhu Holdings LLC will acquire approximately 9.99% stake in Jio Platforms.

Mali awarded 500-MW solar park project to NTPC

The Republic of Mali has awarded the project management consultancy contract for the development of 500 megawatts (MW) solar park to National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC).

Union Cabinet approves formation of “IN-SPACe”

Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has accepted the establishment of Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe). It has been established to promote the participation of private sector in the entire range of space activities.

Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport becomes the 1st airport in India to get AWMS at both ends of the runway

Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru(KIAB/ BLR Airport) becomes the 1st airport in India to get an indigenously-developed Aviation Weather Monitoring System (AWMS) at both ends of the runway. AWMS is installed by Bangalore International Airport(BIAL). The technology is developed by Bengaluru-based CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL).

Features of AWMS

  • The AWMS sensor has been installed on a 10 meters mast which is a 1st of its kind, designed by NAL.
  • It has many unique features including eco-friendly, lightweight & has a life span of over 60 yrs. The sliding mechanism enables easy maintenance.

Himachal Pradesh wins e-Panchayat Puraskar 2020

Himachal Pradesh state Panchayati raj department wins 1st prize under e-Panchayat Puraskar-2020. This prize was provided by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar. All the 3,226 panchayats of the state have been provided internet facility and people can access various services online. The various services such as family register, registration of birth, death and marriages are registered online in the panchayats.

Folk artist Gulabbai Sangamnerkar to get lifetime honour

The Maharashtra government has declared the Vithabai Narayangaokar lifetime achievement award to folk artist Gulabbai Sangamnerkar. The Vithabai Narayangaokar lifetime achievement award is given to a senior tamasha (folk art) artiste. The honour for 2018-19 is being presented upon Gulabbai Sangamnerkar. The honour conveys the money prize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and a memento.

Clare Connor Becomes the 1st Female President of Marylebone Cricket Club

Former England Women Cricket Captain Clare Connor(43-year-old), an all-rounder, becomes the 1st female president of Marylebone Cricket Club(MCC) in 233 years. Her tenure will begin on October 1, 2021, and will end on September 30, 2022. She will succeed Kumar Sangakkara.

She is the current head of women’s cricket in the England and Wales Cricket Board (since 2007). The current MCC president, Kumar Sangakkara who is the 1st  non-British MCC president, nominated Clare Connor through video link from his native Sri Lanka during an annual general meeting on June 24. He is a former Sri Lankan cricketer.

The tenure of MCC Presidents is for a year but Kumar Sangakkara’s term is set to be extended by a further 12 months due to pandemic. He assumed the post in 2019.

Hollywood Director Joel Schumacher passes away

Hollywood Director Joel Schumacher passed away. The costume designer-turned-director was renowned for directing hit movies such as St. Elmo’s Fire, The Lost Boys, Falling Down, including two Batman films.

Trinamool MLA Tamonash Ghosh passes away

Trinamool Congress MLA, Tamonash Ghosh passed away due to COVID-19. He represented Falta Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. He was three-time MLA from Falta & party treasurer since 1998. Ghosh is the first elected public representative in the State to succumb to the contagious viral infection.
