The Hindu English Vocabulary

INCAPACITATED (adjective) : अक्षम

  • Meaning: deprived of strength or power; debilitated.
  • अर्थ: शक्ति या शक्ति से वंचित; दुर्बल।
  • Synonyms: crippled, decrepit, enfeebled, frail.
  • Antonyms: powerful, strong, sturdy, stout.
  • Usage: In states such as Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky, “countless children are growing up with parents in jail, incapacitated or underground”.

RELIC (noun) : अवशेष

  • Meaning: a trace of some past or outmoded practice, custom, or belief.
  • अर्थ: कुछ अतीत या बहिर्मुखी अभ्यास, प्रथा, या विश्वास का एक निशान।
  • Synonyms: vestige, antique, artifact, residue.
  • Antonyms: modern, recent, latest, neoteric.
  • Usage: The piece of pottery was a relic of the past that evoked in me a feeling of nostalgia.

SHODDY (adjective) : तुच्छ

  • Meaning: badly made or done.
  • अर्थ: बुरी तरह बनाया या किया हुआ।
  • Synonyms: trashy, crude, junky, duff.
  • Antonyms: prestigious, reputed, elegant, upright.
  • Usage: Because of shoddy accounting practices, our firm is being audited.

PERJURY (Noun) : मिथ्या शपथ

  • Meaning: the offence of wilfully telling an untruth or making a misrepresentation under oath.
  • अर्थ: शपथ के तहत जानबूझकर असत्य बताने या गलत बयानी करने का अपराध।
  • Synonym: violation of an oath, giving false evidence/testimony, bearing false witness/testimony, forswearing oneself, making false statements, wilful falsehood

  • Meaning: limit or qualify (something) by conditions or exceptions.

  • Synonyms: confine, restrict, limit, hinder, obstruct,
  • Usage: She was hedged in by her imperfect education

REPINE (verb) : विलाप करना

  • Meaning: feel or express discontent; fret.
  • अर्थ: असंतोष महसूस करना या व्यक्त करना; चिंता।
  • Synonyms: mope, languish, despondent, lament.
  • Antonyms: complacent, fulfilled, rejoice, contented.
  • Usage: The soldiers repine for their families when they are stationed overseas.

Quandary (noun) : व्याकुलता
