The Hindu English Vocabulary

ARCHETYPAL (adjective) : मूल आदर्श-विषयक

  • Meaning: very typical of a certain kind of person or thing.
  • अर्थ: एक निश्चित प्रकार के व्यक्ति या बात का बहुत विशिष्ट।
  • Synonyms: conventional, exemplary, stereotypical, prototypical.
  • Antonyms: atypical, unorthodox, unusual, odd.
  • Example: The teacher who won educator of the year is a role model for other teachers and is viewed as the archetype of educators.

PERJURY (Noun) : मिथ्या शपथ

  • Meaning: the offence of wilfully telling an untruth or making a misrepresentation under oath.
  • अर्थ: शपथ के तहत जानबूझकर असत्य बताने या गलत बयानी करने का अपराध।
  • Synonym: violation of an oath, giving false evidence/testimony, bearing false witness/testimony, forswearing oneself, making false statements, wilful falsehood
  • Example: The mother who lied about her son’s whereabouts will soon face trial for perjury.

CHRONIC (Adjective) : पुरानी

  • Meaning: continuing or occurring again and again for a long time,  happening or existing frequently or most of the time, always or often doing something specified
  • अर्थ: लंबे समय तक बार-बार जारी रहना या घटित होना, लगातार या अधिकतर समय, हमेशा या अक्सर कुछ किया जाना
  • Synonym: natural; persistent, regular,
  • Antonym: unaccustomed, unused; intermittent, occasional
  • Example: He suffers from chronic arthritis.

ADJUDICATE (Verb) : निर्णय करना

  • Meaning: to make an official decision about who is right in a dispute
  • अर्थ: किसी विवाद में कौन सही है, इस बारे में आधिकारिक निर्णय लेना
  • Synonym: adjudge, judge, arbitrate, decide, determine
  • Example: You should never adjudicate a major decision when you are under the influence of alcohol.

Mundane (Adjective) : सांसारिक

  • Meaning:  Found in the ordinary course of events
  • अर्थ: घटनाओं के साधारण पाठ्यक्रम में मिला
  • Synonyms: dime, stale, sober, humdrum, day-to-day
  • Antonyms: unusual, Exciting, extraordinary.
  • Example: The list included many mundane, routine tasks.

PROTAGONISTS(noun) : मुख्य पात्र

  • Meaning: the leading character or one of the major characters in a play, film, novel, etc.
  • अर्थ: किसी नाटक, फिल्म, उपन्यास आदि में प्रमुख चरित्र या प्रमुख पात्रों में से एक।
  • Synonym: supporter, upholder
  • Antonym: opponent
  • Example: For the next nine years he was the protagonist of Refor

BRUTAL (adjective) : क्रूर

  • Meaning:savagely violent.
  • अर्थ: हिंसक रूप से हिंसक।
  • Synonym: savage, cruel
  • Antonym: gentle, humane
  • Example : The writer describes the dangers of drugs with brutal honesty.

RELEGATE (Verb) : निर्वासित कर देना

  • Meaning: assign an inferior rank or position to.
  • अर्थ: हीन पद या पद को सौंपना।
  • Synonyms: downgrade, banish, exile, degrade
  • Antonyms: upgrade, promote
  • Example : If you don’t want your boss to relegate you to the status of unemployed, you’d better watch what you say on social media.

SHUN (Verb) : टालना

  • Meaning: persistently avoid, ignore, or reject (someone or something) through antipathy or caution.
  • अर्थ: एंटीपैथी या सावधानी के जरिए लगातार (किसी या किसी चीज को) नजरअंदाज करना, नजरअंदाज करना या अस्वीकार करना।
