World Food Safety Day 2020 observed on 7th June

The United Nations commemorate World Food Safety Day (WFSD) on 7 June. This day celebrated to raise awareness about different foodborne risks and the measures of how to prevent it.

Also, expand the knowledge that how food safety is very much important and related to different other important factors of life such as human health, economic growth, and many others. This year the theme of World Food Safety Day is ‘Food safety, everyone’s business’. 

World Oceans Day 2020

World Ocean Day is celebrated worldwide on 8th June. This day is celebrated to raise global knowledge about the value of the ocean in our lives and the ways through which we can protect it. The theme of UN World Oceans Day 2020 is “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean.” Officially World Ocean Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008.

G20 group pledges over $21 billion to fight Covid-19 pandemic

Member countries of the Group of 20 (G20) have promised more than $21 billion to fight COVID-19 pandemic. The group has agreed to the global efforts by pledging more than $21 billion to enhance global health and hence helping the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NABARD extends Rs 270 crore to Assam Gramin Vikash Bank

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development has stretched a Special Liquidity Facility (SLF) of Rs 270 crore to Assam Gramin Vikash Bank to help the farming activities of the farmers due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Rahul Shrivastava selected as India’s next Ambassador to Romania

Rahul Shrivastava has been designated as the next Ambassador of India to Romania. He is currently working as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. He will replace Thanglura Darlong as the next Ambassador of India to Romania.

Monika Mohta appointed India’s next Ambassador to Switzerland

Monika Kapil Mohta an IFS officer of 1985 batch has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Switzerland. She is presently serving as the Ambassador of India to Sweden. She will replace Sibi George as the next Ambassador of India to Switzerland.

M Nethra appointed as ‘Goodwill Ambassador for the Poor’ by UNADAP

13-year old girl from Tamil Nadu, M Nethra has been appointed as the ‘Goodwill Ambassador for the Poor’ by the United Nations Association for Development and Peace (UNADAP). The UNADAP appreciation brings to the girl the opportunity to address the upcoming Civil Society forums at the UN conferences in New York and Geneva. The Dixon Scholarship has awarded Nethra a scholarship amount of Rs 1,00,000.

Government of India constitutes task force headed by Jaya Jaitly

A 10-members task force has been created by the GoI to decide issues related to Infant Mortality Rate, Maternal Mortality Rate, Total Fertility Rate, Sex Ratio at Birth, Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and any other issue that pertains to health as well as nutrition. The task force has been set up by the Women and Child Development Ministry and will be headed by Jaya Jaitly.

CSIR & Atal Innovation Mission to promote Innovation in India

Council of Scientific & Industrial Research has collaborated with Atal Innovation Mission to encourage reform in India. Both companies have signed a letter of intent to promote the innovation ecosystem of the country.

Major areas of mutual interest are:

  • The partnership will support world class start-ups through CSIR Incubators under the Atal Innovation mission initiatives.
  • They will jointly work on new models of innovation and will also set-up CSIR Innovation Parks.
  • With the collaboration of CSIR with ARISE, an initiative of AIM, they will together stimulate innovation and research in the MSME industry.

ISRO & ARIES signs MoU for cooperation in SSA & Astrophysics

Former Santosh Trophy player Hamza Koya passes away

Hamza Koya who was Santosh Trophy player passed away due to COVID-19. He had played for Maharashtra state in Santosh Trophy in the 1980s.

Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja passes away

Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja passed away. He made his debut with the movie ‘Vayuputra’. He starred in films such as Samhaara, Aadyaa, Khaki, Sinnga, Amma I Love You, Prema Baraha, Dandam Dashagunam and Varadhanayaka among others.

Former world gymnastics champion Kurt Thomas passes away

Kurt Thomas who was the first U.S. male gymnast to win a world championship gold medal passed away. He won the gold medal at the world championships in 1978. He was a five-time NCAA champion at Indiana State University.

Former Governor & Delhi Police Chief Ved Marwah passes away

Former Governor & Delhi Police commissioner, Ved Marwah passed away. He served as Governor of Manipur (1999- 2003), Mizoram (2000-2001) and Jharkhand (2003-2004). He also served as Delhi Police Commissioner from 1985-88.
